  • No, really, it's true

You know what Jesus is never reported to have done?  He never invited anyone to church... or to whatever he called it when he hung out with his disciples.

He met people where they were -- hookers, drunks, lepers, tax collectors, all of society's outcasts.  When they found out he was teaching about love, they began to follow him, naturally... but he didn't drag people to a building or to meet with a group in order to teach tell them his message.

So why are Christians so often isolationists?  Riddle me this, Batman.

  • Well said!

  • Easy, you need people in the buildings in order to pay the bills.

  • LOL...a point usually ignored by the Christian higher ups...but then again...a manmade organization DOES have bills to pay...candles to buy, salaries to furnish, politicians to bribe, luxuries to own...

OK, OK...I won't start on my jaded epiphany.

  • I just finished watching the film Stigmata (again, forgotten how bad the direction was... ) and the entire argument of the film was about Jesus' supposed message that church buildings were unnecessary and religion came from within oneself and the entire natural world.

I was going to make a point ...but old age has stolen my ideas again. Must be time for bed.

  • hmmm, something to ponder...

  • jesus was so anti-church he went around destroying temples. in the secret gospels (the only parts of the bible i've ever read, even though they're not in the bible. well, aside from song of solomon and a little bit of genesis) he talks about how your own body is your church.

  • Hmmm.... so you don't want them to drag you to church, and you don't want them to knock on your door... ~ shakes head ~

  • I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I've always looked to church as a place to learn from others, plus I never fail to feel His presence there because I'm away from all the distractions of the world.  It's a resource for me and support.  Yes, I guess I could do the same thing with a group of people in a McDonalds but to me, and maybe me only, it wouldn't be the same.
