Birthday Floods
Today is my birthday. I was going to donate my birthday
to my friend Caroline, whose birthday was 9/11. I even thought about getting her a card for today, because her birthday was so god-awful. However, Austin (my town) is mostly underwater right now. The roads look like the picture at right.
I was driving for five hours yesterday, trying to pick up our son from school. I can't really articulate the panic one feels when they hear, at 4:15 p.m., "A tornado has touched down at Ben White Blvd. and I-35...", and that's exactly where your child's bus should be at that point. He finally found me... they had put all the kids in "lock-down" at various schools around town, and he borrowed a friend's cell phone to call. My son is 14 and pretty self-sufficient... but imagine those with smaller children, who they can't find in a city of 1 million people, in the middle of a storm, and 7 tornadoes have touched down in town. It was a hell of a day, I'm just sayin'.
Floods everywhere, people dying... maybe we'll do this birthday thing another year.

Happy birthday, for what it's worth.
Happy Birthday. I'm sure your son was as glad to see you as you were to see him. My sister-in-law's birthday was 9-11, too...who could celebrate?

happy birthday sooz. i hear the weather is terrible in texas. hope you're safe.
Happy HAPPY birthday, hon. You deserve a good one. It's been a crazy year. MINE was a couple days AFTER 9/11, and I did not feel like celebrating when so many other people will never have another birthday. But I was still in shock. At this point, I think it's important to celebrate. VERY important, as a matter of fact. Hope you have a really great day (and weekend)!
Birthday hugs!
Can I still wish you a happy Birthday? I mean, after all your family is safe, you have a roof over your head and food to eat. That's more than many of the kids in the third world that share their birthday with you.
I vote that you put your feet up for now and celebrate your birthday later in the year. Take Groundhog Day - I don't think the rodent will miss it.
Its hard to celebrate under such circumstances as these, but I send you Birthday Wishes for peace and happiness.
Tornadoes are scary..downer of being in the South, eh?
Happy Birthday, regardless. Hope you can make the best of it. ^_^
Eesh. And I thought I had it bad 'cause it always rains on my b-day.
Happy belated birthday anyhow..
Happy Birthday
I hear ya had a party. I hope it was fun for you.
Glad everyone is safe.
wow! I've never actually witnessed a tornado. I'm glad you and yours are all safe. Happy Birthday nonetheless
Happy birthday to you!
